Sour Cream Twists

Shirley Goff was our landlady when we were first married. Sour Cream Twists are a favorite treat she used to make for Lucas.

Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Directions

Mix flour, salt, and butter ingredients like pie crust. Set aside.

Dissolve yeast in warm water.

Beat eggs, sour cream, and half of the vanilla together. Add yeast mix.

Mix all ingredients together, cover bowl tightly and refrigerate overnight.

NEXT DAY: Work 1/2 dough at a time. Mix sugar and second half of the vanilla together to use like flour when rolling dough into rectangle. Fold into thirds. Roll again into rectangle about 4” wide and cut into 1”x 4” strips. Twist and place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes @ 350 º.
